Eastern Mediterranean dominated Tsipras’s meetings with Le Drian and Stoltenberg
Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras’ recent meetings with French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg were of crucial importance for the management of the developments in the Eastern Mediterranean over the coming months, sources said on Friday. An upcoming meeting with Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades on September 17 is also viewed in the same framework.
According to reports, the following four issues dominated prime minister’s contacts:
– The course of Turkey and the tension in its relations with the US, but also the management of their impact at NATO level.
– The aggression of the neighbouring country in relation to the Cypriot EEZ.
– Operations in Idlib, and the risk that these will lead to further mass refugee flows
– Maintaining the NATO operation in the Aegean as part of migration control.
