Donald Tusk calls on European Council members to start accession talks for FYROM and Albania

European Council President Donald Tusk on Thursday expressed confidence that the 28 EU member-states will formally adopt a decision to start accession talks with the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) and Albania in June 2019.

The European Council is meeting on Thursday and Friday in Brussels, and Tusk made his statements at a joint press conference with FYROM Prime Minister Zoran Zaev.

Speaking of the Greece-FYROM agreement on the name issue, which removed the main obstacle to accession negotiations, Tusk called it “an example in resolving disagreements” and called on council members to express their unanimous support of it.
