Alexis Tsipras calls Pedro Sanchez, congratulates on appointment as Spain’s PM
Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras telephoned the new Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez on Wednesday and congratulated him on his appointment as prime minister.
According to an announcement from Tsipras’ office, the two leaders “agreed to cooperate closely over the coming period, so that Greece and Spain can contribute constructively to promoting the necessary reforms in the Eurozone, the agenda for a social Europe and a revision of the Common European Asylum System, as well as peace and stability in the Mediterranean.”
Tsipras also briefed his Spanish counterpart on the progress of negotiations on easing Greek debt, asking for his support, the PM’s office said.
During their conversation, the two premiers additionally agreed to work together closely within the Party of European Socialists (PES) to prepare the next EU South Summit.
