Cost of electricity power theft 80 million euros in 2016

The cost of electricity power theft totaled 80 million euros in 2016, HEDNO S.A. (Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network Operator S.A.) said in a report released on Wednesday.

Responding to recent press reports, the Operator said that based on data approved by the Energy Regulatory Authority, non-technical losses (mainly electricity power theft) in the country’s interconnected network was around 1,800 GWh of a wholesale value of around 80 million euros.

The Operator said that according to a strategic plan by the Hellenic Holding and Property Company, consumed energy in 2016 totaled 970 million euros in value, up from 359 million in 2011. The plan also noted that Public Power Corporation’s commercial pre-provision claims totaled 4.3 billion euros in 2016, while provisions for arrears was 2.7 billion euros.
