Gov’t spokesman Tzanakopoulos calls on for the broadest possible consensus on FYROM name issue

Given the positive attitude of the FYROM‘s political leadership, a window of opportunity is opening to resolve a problem that has been pending for 25 years, and given the attitude of the FYROM leadership, we must take advantage of this opportunity, find the most appropriate terms and the most appropriate process to proceed in order to resolve the issue,” government spokesman Dimitris Tzanakopoulos said on the FYROM name issue, in an interview with public broadcaster ERT, on Tuesday.

He explained that the initial cautiousness of Panos Kammenos, the leader of the junior government coalition partner Independent Greeks, was reasonable due to the different political and ideological origins but he will not raise an obstacle to the effort made for a solution.

“I estimate that there will be room for the widest possible consensus in order to be able to use the window of opportunity to solve this complicated issue,” he said and added, “what we have to stick to is the effort to achieve the broadest possible consensus in order to show that Greece is a pillar of stability in the wider region and its role is to solve and not to cause problems.”
