Intense exercise decreases worsening of Parkinson’s disease

High – intensity physical exercise may stop the worsening of Parkinson’s disease symptoms, US scientists say, according to a new study by Northwestern University in Chicago.

During the experiment, sufferers of neurodegenerative disease were randomly divided into three groups: the first group exercised intensively, the second had a moderate work-out and the third did not exercise at all.

After six months, the researchers found that those who had a high – intensity physical exercise, were stable, while symptoms of Parkinson’s disease had not deteriorated further.

In the group treated with moderate intensity, the symptoms showed little deterioration, while finally to those who had not exercised at all, the deterioration of the symptoms was even greater.
