European Commission’s Competition Directorate General (DG Comp) will organise a market test process for Public Power Corporation’s (PPC) lignite power units and around 40 companies from around the world will be invited to participate.
The aim of this market test is to be completed by the end of January and an international tender to be launched by the end of May by PPC, considering the electricity utility has begun procedures to hire six advisers to the sale).
The companies to be approached by DG Comp include electricity companies from the US, Japan, China, Czech Republic, Poland. Manolis Panagiotakis, PPC’s chairman and CEO, invited as well Greek power producers and large Greek consumers energy consuming industries to participate in the purchase of PPC’s lignite units.
The market test, among others, aims to examine whether the market’s interest focuses on all lignite units (Megalopoli 3 and 5, Florina 1 and a license to build a second) or separate packages in the North and South, etc. However, the package of lignite units to be sold will remain unchanged.
The government is expected to table to Parliament all legislative regulations necessary to accelerate procedures and PPC to hire advisers to the sale. PPC will also prepare to launch an international tender next year.
