Autumn officially starts at the 22nd of September

On Friday, the 22nd of September, at 23:02 (local time in Greece), the autumn officially begins. Then, there will be the autumn equinox in the northern hemisphere, where our country is, while respectively, in the southern hemisphere spring will begin.

In the equinox, the night and the day have almost the same duration. Then, in the northern hemisphere, the day’s duration will become smaller and smaller and the night will grow, until the latter reaches its zenith in December’s winter solstice.

Both equinoxes and solstices happen twice a year and mark the beginning of the seasons. Since ancient times, such phenomena have been celebrated by people, who have given them mythological significance.
