Energy Minister to participate in Cyprus-Greece-Israel-Italy meeting on EastMed
Cypriot Minister of Energy, Commerce, Industry and Tourism Yiorgos Lakkotrypis will be departing for Tel Aviv on Sunday, to participate in a meeting on Monday between the Ministers of Energy from Cyprus, Greece, Israel and Italy, to discuss the EastMed natural gas pipeline.
The meeting will be held in the presence of European Commissioner for Climate Action and Energy Miguel Arias Cañete and will be concluded with a joint press conference.
According to a PIO press release, the EastMed pipeline is of strategic importance for the Eastern Mediterranean, as it aims at creating a direct export route for the natural gas reserves of the region towards Europe as part of the Eastern Mediterranean passage and complementing other export options under consideration.
The pre-feed study for EastMed, carried out by IGI Poseidon and funded by the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), has indicated that the proposed pipeline is technically feasible and commercially viable.
Lakkotrypis will be returning to Cyprus on April 4.
