The Easter custom of Greek Godparents

Only a few weeks left since the Easter comes. Many of us are Godparents, however do we really know what is our role for our Godchild?

To start with, it is important to understand the overall roll of a Godparent. A Godparent is an individual chosen by the parents to take an interest in the kid’s upbringing and personal development too. Moreover, a Godparent needs to guide the Godchild, during their way of practicing the Greek Orthodox faith. Furthermore, no matter what your relationship with your Godchild is, you need to know that there is always a perfect time to strengthen your bonds, especially now, during the Great Lent period and the Easter.

You can start by buying an outfit for your Godchild as it a common tradition in Greece and your Godchild will be able to wear it, during Holy Week or Easter. Moreover, it is common to buy a candle more unique than the church provides, for the Holy Saturday service.

We need to mention, that there are no particular rules a Godparent needs to follow, however this is a great period of time to give your Godchild some gifts and spent some extra time with your godson or your goddaughter too.
