Skopje lawmakers approve start of constitutional revision under Prespes Agreement

The Parliament in neighbouring FYROM approved a revision the country’s constitution in accordance with the Prespes Agreement signed with Greece, under which it will change its name to Republic of North Macedonia, in a vote held late on Friday.

FYROM Prime Minister Zoran Zaev succeeded in getting the minimum 80 votes required to pass his proposal, extracting eight votes from the opposition and successfully concluding the first phase of the process.

Once the change in the country’s name takes place, its path to joining NATO and ultimately the European Union lies open.
