President Putin exchanges good wishes by phone with Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew

Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew spoke on the phone with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who was visiting in Ankara, and exchanged good wishes for Easter.

Putin thanked the ecumenical patriarch for his efforts to keep Orthodoxy united and the permission he gave so that a chapel of Saint Andrew may be built at the Russian embassy in Ankara, and for the welcoming he received during his two visits to Mt. Athos. He also conveyed the brotherly greeting of Patriarch Cyrill of Moscow and All Russia, and Cyrill’s readiness to strengthen relations between the two churches.

Bartholomew congratulated Putin on his re-election and said, among other things, that the patriarchate was looking after Orthodox faithful of Russian descent who live in Turkey.
