Efi Achtsioglou: Greece successfully and unconditionally out of fiscal programmes

“Last summer, Greece successfully and unconditionally came out of the fiscal programmes, implementing the commitment we undertook when we became a government, and thanks to this development it is the first time the country has taken part in the European Semester process,” Labour Minister Efi Achtsioglou said on Thursday, in her address to the EU’s Council of Ministers for Employment and Social Policy (EPSCO).

“August 21 marks a historic milestone in restoring social rights in the country, which have been seriously affected over the eight years of fiscal adjustment programmes and austerity,” the Labour Minister noted, referring to the date after the last fiscal adjustment program ended.

“Our goal now is to strengthen workers’ negotiating power and raise wages, while maintaining the downward trend in unemployment, which has fallen by 7.5 percentage points over the past 3.5 years,” she said.
