Press revelations about DEPA ‘scandal’ point to Maximos Mansion, says New Democracy

“Today’s revelations by the newspapers ‘Vima tis Kyriakis’ and ‘Kathimerini’ no longer leave any doubt that the DEPA scandal directly concerns the Maximos Mansion,” main opposition New Democracy said in a press release on Sunday.

According to the party, there was now firm evidence substantiating statements by SYRIZA cadre and former DEPA chief Theodoros Kitsakos that his actions were “coordinated by senior figures in the government”.

“The minutes of DEPA board meetings and the e-mails made public today show that at least three ministers – specifically George Stathakis, Alekos Flambouraris and Yiannis Dragasakis – were illegally planning specific property swaps at the expense of the public sector that would benefit the company ELFE, while aware that these properties were overvalued and, more importantly, sequestered by the Authority against money laundering,” ND said.

“[Prime Minister Alexis] Tsipras can no longer hide from this unprecedented scandal that is emerging as the crown of corruption within his government. Tsipras can no longer stay silent when 15 people are being prosecuted on criminal charges, among them Kitsakos that he personally placed at the held of DEPA with a mission to serve the interests of [Lavrentis] Lavrentiadis. The ministers involved and the prime minister have an obligation to explain to the citizens how they are connected to this business man now facing charges,” the party said.
