Alexis Charitsis: Creating a new progressive majority is a historic necessity
“It is a historic necessity to try to create a new progressive majority“, now that “the government’s collaboration with ANEL (Independent Greeks) is completing its cycle,” Interior Minister Alexis Charitsis said in an interview on Thursday.
Furthermore, Charitsis noted that it is the duty of progressive forces to create a pan-European front against extreme neoliberalism and the extreme right. He noted that while the Social Democrats and the Greens hope that SYRIZA will play an important role in this direction, this is not the case in the country. “We will insist in this direction for convergence, yet maintaining our own political character,” he said.
On Defence Minister Panos Kammenos’ accusations against former Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias on fund mishandling, he said that “anyone who has proof must appeal to justice. We want to shed light on everything.”
“All corruption cases must be cleared in order to restore a sense of justice in Greece. We must show that anyone who misappropriated public money will be punished,” he added.
