We will never try to escape from our responsibilities, says PM Tsipras

The Greek government is experiencing its most difficult moment since coming into office, said Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras said on Friday.

“Today, I asked for the cabinet to convene at a difficult moment, perhaps the worst of our government period. I will not hide from you that I am filled with mixed emotions at this time. As I imagine you are too.”

“Pain for the human lives that were lost unexpectedly and unfairly. But also concerned. Concerned about if we acted correctly on everything we were meant to do. If we reacted correctly at the crucial times. If we could have done something more. If we could have saved even one more life among those that left us unfairly,” he said.

“I want to undertake, in front of the cabinet and in front of the Greek people, the political responsibility of the tragedy,” he said, adding that I consider this to be self-evident for the prime minister of the country. “I invite you all to also do this. No matter how hard it is. Because it is also self-evident for the government of the country,” he said.

“We will never try to escape from our responsibilities,” he said.
