Diplomatic sources respond to media reports on alleged expulsion of Russian diplomats

Greek diplomats on Wednesday commented on recent Greek media reports claiming the government has decided to expel Russian diplomats over national security issues, in statements to the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA) on Wednesday.

Referring to the Scripal poisoning case in Britain, the sources referred to recent Greek media reports, saying, “Greece, when the Scripal case surfaced, did not expel Russian diplomats, as it had no proof, while in this case there are facts that concern national security, and measures are being taken.”

In statements responding to the media reports, Government Spokesman Dimitris Tzanakopoulos said, “Greece wants good relations with all states. Beyond that, all states and authorities are obliged to respect both international law and us, the Greek government and the Greek state. In this context, wherever necessary, measures have been taken, and this is what has been done this time.”
