Christos Spirtzis: Greece is now playing a key role in the Balkans and the south Mediterranean

“It is now obvious that, with Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras‘ initiatives, Greece is playing a key role in the region of the Balkans and of the southern Mediterranean”, underlined Infrastructures and Transport Minister Christos Spirtzis in a statement on Sunday on the occasion of the recent quadrilateral meeting in Thessaloniki (Serbia, Romania, Bulgaria, Greece) where the political volition for the extension of the agreement with Bulgaria and the creation of a Balkan ring of combined transport was certified.

The minister said that with specific policies and collaborations, Greece in not any more an isolated country at the edge of Europe. “Our vision is the region to acquire the characteristics of the countries of central Europe with links, modern transport, energy and telecoms networks.

Spirtzis also noted that in the sector of infrastructures and combined transport this policy has started to bear fruit and referred to the projects already completed or in progress in Greece as well as to the interstate agreements with the countries of the Balkan peninsula, which implementation will make the dream come true.
