Main opposition New Democracy will use every available parliamentary means to demonstrate that the prime minister lacks a political mandate to clinch a deal on the name issue with the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM), ND party’s spokeswoman Maria Spyraki said on Wednesday.
As Spyraki noted, ND had made clear from the start that Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras ?does not have the political legitimisation of his government? to sign the agreement with his FYROM counterpart Zoran Zaev in Prespes.
“ND asked the government that Mr. Tsipras should have Parliament’s mandate in order to sign the agreement. The government is refusing to hold a vote. ND will use all available parliamentary means in order to demonstrate that Mr. Tsipras does not have a political mandate to sign this bad agreement for Greece,” she said.
