Israel is “fully responsible for the grave escalation” of the events in the Gaza border on Monday which led to the deaths of at least 60 civilians and the injury of another 2,700 civilians, the head of the Diplomatic Representation of Palestine in Athens, Marwan Toubassi, said in a statement on Tuesday.
Ambassador Toubassi condemned “this ongoing heinous massacre committed in cold blood by the Israeli occupation forces against innocent Palestinian civilians” and said “this criminal behavior must have consequences. The integrity and credibility of the international system depends on ensuring accountability.”
Toubassi thanked Greece for its decision not to attend the inauguration of the US Embassy in Jerusalem, which he said encouraged the Israelis to commit the violence, and called on the international community to defend international laws and order related to Palestine. The Palestinian leadership, he said, “will continue to pursue all available legal and diplomatic avenues to defend our people’s rights from Israel’s entrenched regime of colonization and aggression.”
