The growth of the modern state of Israel was uphill and painful, despite its short history, main opposition New Democracy (ND) party leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis said on Thursday, on the 70th anniversary of the country’s founding.
“Israel’s history is short, because seventy years in a historic nation’s progress are few, although it experienced a unique historical, terrifying violence and inhuman persecution,” Mitsotakis said. “Israel’s seventy-year history was painful, uphill and difficult. It went through periods of peace and stability and of instability, conflict and wars. It experienced successes and mistakes, as happens with all nations and states,” he said, but today it is a strong, economically advanced and stable democracy in a very tough area facing tension, challenges and insecurity.
