Yanis Varoufakis presented the main policy directions of the MeRA25 political party during a press conference on Monday, in the framework of the proceedings for the new party’s founding conference. These are seven points that signal the change of orientation between Europe and Greece, he said.
“Today we are establishing a party that is an integral part of DiEM25,” said Varoufakis. The co-founder of MeRA25 noted that Greece is facing the worst threat after the civil war (after WWII) as it had suffered a “quadruple bankruptcy” of the state, the banks, households and businesses.
The seven points of the political programme presented by Yanis Varoufakis are:
Debt restructuring, the reduction of primary surpluses, the creation of a private debt restructuring firm, the drastic reduction of tax rates, the creation of a public non-bank payment system, the conversion of the HRADF and the privatisations superfund into a development bank and respect for employment (abolition of the use of “freelance” employees to cover permanent and ongoing staffing needs) as well as creative entrepreneurship.
