Sharia law draft bill is a historic moment, says PM Tsipras

Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras said, through Twitter, that the new draft bill on the issue of the Sharia law is a historic step, which aims to improve and expand equality for all Greek citizens, with no exceptions.

More specifically, the specific amendment concerns the cases of the family law for the Muslim minority, which provides that if there is not an agreement between the two parties, the Greek court of law are in charge.

Tsipras underlines that Greece, being voluntarily a member of human rights treaties, needs to follow certain standards and correct injustices that kept going till now. The Muslim community in Thrace were an exception to the rule of law and equality standards. Tsipras concludes that there needs to be dialogue and consistency to raise awareness of such important issue.
