Attica ports packed with holidaymakers

The ports of Attica were packed on Sunday as the last August holidaymakers leave for the islands ahead of the Greek Orthodox holiday of the “ Dormition of the Mother of God” (‘Kimisis tis Theotokou’) on August 15.

Twenty-seven ferries are scheduled to leave from Piraeus, thirteen from Rafina and six from Lavrio for the islands of the Argo-Saronic Gulf, the Cyclades, the Dodecanese and Crete.

The port authorities said that on Saturday, 33,077 passengers left from Piraeus, 8,578 passengers from Rafina and 2,980 from Lavrio.
