Greek shooting champion Anna Korakaki has been selected by the Olympic International Committee as a role model for all athletes competing in the Youth Olympic Games taking place in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The Olympic Gold medalist took to Instagram to express her gratitude for the honor of being an Athlete Role Model and sent a message to all athletes “to fully enjoy this experience, regardless the result! Stay faithful, positive and persistent and never stop chasing those dreams.”
When I was 18, in 2014, I finished 4th at the Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, missing the podium, feeling very disappointed, sad and unconfident. I remember I was thinking to myself: “Since I didn’t make it here, I will definitely not make something at the…great Olympics in just two years from now. No way.”
Two years later, I become the first female Greek athlete to win 2 medals at the same Olympics. And today, at the next Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires, I am an Athlete Role Model for the young athletes who will take part.
I am feeling ready and excited for the long trip tomorrow & this great opportunity for me to cheer, support & share my knowledge and experience with the future world’s stars of sports.
My message to all athletes is to fully enjoy this experience, regardless the result! Stay faithful, positive and persistent and never stop chasing those dreams. Never.
