FIFA spox: Episodes of violence shall be ceased

FIFA has taken note of the lifting of the ban on the Greek Championship and Cup and has informed the Greek Government that the FIFA Monitoring Committee overseeing the Hellenic Football Federation has submitted a report to the chairman of the FIFA Member Associations Committee,” a FIFA spokesperson said on Friday in a statement to the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA).

“Beyond the lifting of the ban, FIFA requires concrete guarantees that episodes of violence will stop thus allowing for a smooth running of the national competitions, both in the short and long-term,” he added. Further updates on this matter will be communicated in due course.

The ANA contacted FIFA regarding the recent controversy surrounding Greek football and news that the chairman of the monitoring committee for Greek football, Herbert Hubel, intends to recommend a football ‘Grexit’ where all Greek teams – including the national team – are excluded from international competitions.
