Maria Sakkari defeated by Johanna Konta in Wimbledon’s third round

Maria Sakkari was impressive in this year’s Wimbledon, reaching the third round, but there she was unable to make yet another overtime that would lead her to the fourth round for the first time in her career.

On Friday’s game, the 22 year old Greek champion faced Johanna Konta, No. 7 in the world rankings, with the British tennis player winning the title of favourite in front of her compatriots and dominating with 2-0 sets, taking that ticket for the first time in her career for the 4th round of the tournament.

In the first set, the Greek champion was quite competitive but Konta prevailed over her with a 6-4 score line, while on the second set Maria could not stand against her opponent, and finally got defeated with 6-1.

We remind that Maria Sakkari was the first Greek tennis player to make the third round of the Wimbledon, after Lena Daniilidou did in 2005.
