One person being questioned by police after minor incidents at student rally for Grigoropoulos

Police brought one person in for questioning following limited incidents that took place at Klafthmonos Square in central Athens between young people and policemen, during a student rally on Thursday on the 10th anniversary of the murder of teenager Alexandros Grigoropoulos by a police officer.

Tension erupted between young people and the police during a rally at Klathmonos Square.

A group of young people hurled Molotov cocktails and stones against the police, which made use of chemicals.

According to sources, over 5,000 police officers will be deployed in the wider region of downtown Athens as part of precautionary measures to prevent violent incidents.

A police helicopter will fly over Athens, along with a number of drones, while several plainclothes police will be patrolling Exarchia, on the lookout for any suspicious activity.
