Freighter that ran aground off Lefkada pulled free

The Albanian-flagged freighter “Koravi” that run aground early on Friday in the sea region of Akrotiri Doukatou of Lefkada was pulled free and is being towed to the port of Vassiliki, Lefkada.

The eight members of the crew, all Albanian nationals, had abandoned the ship when it started to take on water and were transferred to the Lefkada health centre as a precaution.

According to the company that is responsible for the entire operation, the influx of water is not a cause for concern and has not affected the ship’s balance.

“Koravi” had set sail from Volos with a cargo of iron and was bound for Albania.
