Three foreign television productions to be shown in Japan, Russia and the Netherlands will help promote Greece‘s beautiful landscapes and countryside abroad. Planned and organised with the support of Greece’s National Tourism Organisation (GNTO), they form part of a strategy for the expansion of Greek tourism by attracting foreign productions to shoot on location, thus acting as a direct, constant and effective promotion of Greek tourism in foreign markets.
Implementing the strategic plan initiated by Tourism Minister Elena Kountoura in this area, an average of 200 familiarisation trips are organised each year, which include foreign audiovisual production companies in a bid to promote and project Greece’s tourism product via the entertainment industry.
Visiting Athens on July 24-27, a Blue Circle television crew will be filming for a programme to be shown by the Dutch television station KRO-NCRV on September 2 that will present Athens as a city break destination – a selection assisted by GNTO Netherlands.
The Russian network Russia 1 was recently in Thessaloniki, Pella, Halkidiki and Meteora while it will be completing shooting in Athens this week in order to create five four-minute videos that will be shown throughout the summer, three times a day, by the popular morning show “Utro Rossii”.
Among others, these will include spots on the cuisine of the Mount Athos monasteries, the Loutraki area in Pella and Meteora. Russia 1 has very high ratings and is watched by 98.5 pct of all Russians, as well as 50 million viewers in the Baltic states and Russian commonwealth.
A Japanese television crew for Fuji TV was filming on the island of Ikaria in June in order to produce a one-hour episode of the programme “To live in extreme places of the world”. The crew was assisted by GNTO, while filming included interviews with islanders about the secrets of the remarkable longevity on the island, as well as scenes from local festivals and the traditional customs of the villages Chrysostomos and Christos Rachon.
