Police launched drug swoop in Exarchia, second in a month

Police launched a drug operation in Exarchia on Wednesday, in a bid to stamp out drug usage and peddling in the main square area.

It was the second operation of its type in a month in the area as authorities aim at ridding Exarchia of minor crime, mostly drug related.

Police said they detained 16 people but released most of them shortly afterwards. They kept in detention two men, an Albanian and Afghan national, after they were found to be in possession of a small amount of drugs. Authorities said they will keep up the increased policing of the area.
