Human trafficker arrested after pursuit off the coast of Kos

The coast guard on Thursday pursued and arrested a 37-year-old man who had delivered seven irregular migrants on Kos island and tried to evade authorities on a high-speed boat.

The man had left the migrants, five men and two women, at the Lambi area of the island.

The coast guard had tried to approach the boat with two vessels, who broadcast messages asking him to stop. When he refused to comply, the coast guard fired warning shots at the outboard engine, stopping the vessel.

According to the coast guard, in his attempt to ram one of the inspection boats the man lost his balance and injured himself. He was taken to the Kos General Hospital for first aid and when released from the hospital was arrested for illegal entry, illegal transport of individuals, resistance and disobedience.
