The 10th International Geoparks Summer School begins on the island of Lesvos on Thursday with the intensive course “UNESCO Global Geoparks and Geological Heritage Management”, with the participation of representatives from 25 countries.
It is jointly organised by the Geography Department of the University of the Aegean and the Natural History Museum of the Lesvos Petrified Forest, as well as the UNESCO Earth Sciences and Geohazard Risk Reduction Section, UNESCO Global Geoparks and the Global Geoparks Network.
The 10th International Geoparks Summer School will be held from June 7-17 with the support of the General Secretariat for the Aegean and Island Policy, the Region of North Aegean and the Municipality of Lesvos.
The opening ceremony will take place at 18:00 at the Municipal Theater of Kalloni.
“The organisation of the International Geoparks Summer School in Lesvos will contribute to the promotion of Lesvos abroad,” Professor Nikos Zouros, director of the Natural History Museum of the Lesvos Petrified Forest, said.
