Proastiakos’ workers join strike, airport line hit

The Athens suburban railway line (proastiakos) will not operate on Wednesday as its employees take part in a general strike called by the country’s two largest union groups ADEDY and GSEE.

The railway line linking the Doukissis Plakentias station with the airport will also be off limits.

Public sector union group ADEDY ad private sector peers GSEE have called a strike in opposition to austerity being implemented by the Greek government in order to receive more rescue funding from international creditors.

Earlier Friday, the Athens journalists’ union ESHEA announced that there will be a press blackout on Wednesday due to journalists also walking off the job for 24 hours.
