Greece is among the countries where online purchases through mobile devices are increasing, with 25 pct of online sales made through mobile phones or tablets, according to the data collected in a Paypal and Ipos survey on international online shopping trends.
The leaders for online shopping via mobile are consumers in China and India, where 53 pct and 48 pct of online purchases were made this way, and the United States (45 pct). Worldwide, purchases through mobile devices account for 32 pct of the total volume of payments but most consumers continue to prefer online purchases through their PC or laptop, especially in eastern parts of Europe (65 pct in Russia, 73 pct in Greece, 76 pct in the Czech Republic).
International online shopping is growing rapidly, the survey found, with 55 pct of online customers in the 31 countries participating in the survey having made purchases from e-shops based in another country.
The most popular products bought abroad were clothing and footwear (68 pct), electronic goods (53 pct) and games (53 pct).
Greek online consumers making purchases abroad tend to buy mainly clothing, footwear and accessories (69 pct), electronic goods, computers/tablets/mobiles and peripheral devices (64 pct) and games and hobby goods (51 pct). This largely follows worldwide trends, where clothing, footwear and accessories account for 68 pct of sales, electronic goods etc. for 53 pct and games etc. for 53 pct.
The main foreign markets where Greeks make online sales are the United States, United Kingdom, Germany and France, selling mostly travel products, sundry services, clothing/fashion, website services and car parts.
